Tales from the Bench

Graham Higgins tells the story of life as a local magistrate, initially in Cheshire but in Suffolk since
1992. A lighthearted and informative talk, that starts with our legal heritage, particularly the part
Suffolk and Bury St Edmunds have played in it, leading the town motto to include “cradle of the
law”.
The talk includes:

• local events and particularly the role magistrates have played in this history
• some of the more unusual experiences on the bench
• while crime has changed over the years many of the underlying problems remain the same
• Graham will also explain how people can apply to become a magistrate.

The talk starts at 7.30pm and will last around an hour.
